Press Release September 12, 2021

Apple TV+ was honored with seven Creative Arts Emmy Awards at the 73rd Annual Creative Arts Emmy Awards, it was announced today by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, ahead of the 73rd annual Primetime Emmy Awards which will take place on Sunday, September 19.

With its history-making win for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Special for “Boys State,” Apple TV+ becomes the first streaming service to win an Emmy Award in the category in its first two years of eligibility. In addition, “Ted Lasso” landed three Emmys, and “Carpool Karaoke: The Series” took home the award for Outstanding Short Form Comedy, Drama or Variety Series for the fourth year straight. Apple Originals “For All Mankind” and “Calls” landed previously announced awards this year in juried categories, including Outstanding Innovation in Interactive Media for “For All Mankind: Time Capsule,” and Outstanding Motion Design for “Calls.”

In less than two years since its global launch on November 1, 2019, Apple has been honored with 143 award wins and 517 nominations.

Last month, Apple landed a total of 35 Primetime Emmy Award nominations, including 20 nominations for “Ted Lasso,” which broke records by becoming the most nominated comedy series this year, and the most nominated freshman comedy series in history. The remainder of the nominations will be presented in the 73rd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards next Sunday, September 19.

Apple’s critically-acclaimed hit series “Ted Lasso” received its first Emmy Award wins during last night’s presentation for Outstanding Sound Mixing For A Comedy Or Drama Series (Half-Hour) and Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing For A Comedy Series. And tonight, the comedy series landed an additional Creative Arts Emmy Award for Theo Park for Outstanding Casting For A Comedy Series.

Recently renewed for a fifth season, which is set to make its global debut on Apple TV+, Apple’s “Carpool Karaoke: The Series” landed its fourth consecutive Emmy Award win for Outstanding Short Form Comedy, Drama Or Variety Series.

In total, this year Apple TV+ landed Creative Arts Emmy Awards for:

“Boys State” — Outstanding Documentary Or Nonfiction Special

“Ted Lasso” — Outstanding Sound Mixing For A Comedy Or Drama Series (Half-Hour)

“Ted Lasso” — Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing For A Comedy Series

“Ted Lasso” — Outstanding Casting For A Comedy Series

“Carpool Karaoke: The Series” — Outstanding Short Form Comedy, Drama Or Variety Series

“For All Mankind” — Outstanding Innovation in Interactive Media for “For All Mankind: Time Capsule”

“Calls” — Outstanding Motion Design

Global hit comedy series “Ted Lasso” recently made history as the most nominated comedy in Emmy Awards history, and earning an esteemed Peabody  Award. To date, “Ted Lasso” has been also honored with an Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series Award for Jason Sudeikis at the 2021 Screen Actors Guild Awards; three Critics Choice Awards for Best Comedy Series, Best Actor in a Comedy Series for Jason Sudeikis, and Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for Hannah Waddingham, sweeping all categories in which the widely beloved series was nominated; a Best Actor in a Comedy Series at the Golden Globe Awards for star Sudeikis; and, the Writers Guild of America crowned “Ted Lasso” with wins for both Best Comedy and Best New Series.

“Ted Lasso” stars Jason Sudeikis as Ted Lasso, a small-time American college football coach hired to coach a Premier League team despite having no experience coaching the English game. Sudeikis also serves as executive producer on the show and is supported by an Emmy nominated ensemble including Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, Juno Temple, Brendan Hunt, Jeremy Swift and Nick Mohammed. The second season is now streaming on Apple TV+.

The sensational winner of the Grand Jury Prize for documentary at this year's Sundance Film Festival, “Boys State” is a wildly entertaining and continually revealing immersion into a week-long annual program in which a thousand Texas high school seniors gather for an elaborate mock exercise: building their own state government. Filmmakers Jesse Moss and Amanda McBaine closely track the escalating tensions that arise within a particularly riveting gubernatorial race, training their cameras on unforgettable teenagers like Ben, a Reagan-loving arch-conservative who brims with confidence despite personal setbacks, and Steven, a progressive-minded child of Mexican immigrants who stands by his convictions amidst the sea of red. In the process, they have created a complex portrait of contemporary American masculinity, as well as a microcosm of our often dispiriting national political divisions that nevertheless manages to plant seeds of hope. In addition to landing the Sundance Grand Jury Prize in 2020, “Boys State” was named Best Political Documentary at the Critics’ Choice Documentary Awards, in addition to garnering best documentary wins from the Chicago Indie Critics, Oklahoma Film Critics Circle, Denver Film Critics Society Awards, Washington D.C. Area Film Critics Association, Las Vegas Film Critics Society and Phoenix Film Critics Society. The film also appeared on former President Barack Obama’s list of favorite movies from 2020.

Recently renewed for a fifth season, “Carpool Karaoke: The Series” is a four-time Emmy Award-winning singing sensation, featuring a star-studded lineup across television, film, music, sports, pop culture and more. Each episode welcomes a different group of superstars every episode buckling up and belting out their favorite songs for a road trip filled with comedy, conversation and music. “Carpool Karaoke: The Series," which is based on the popular segment from “The Late Late Show with James Corden,” won the past three consecutive Emmy Awards in 2018, 2019 and 2020 for Outstanding Short Form Variety Series, and the Critics' Choice Award for Short Form Series in 2019. “Carpool Karaoke: The Series” is produced for Apple by CBS Studios in association with Fulwell 73. James Corden and Ben Winston are the creators and executive producers, along with executive producer Eric Pankowski.
