John Lennon Solo Catalogue Debuts on iTunes Store
CUPERTINO, California - August 14th, 2007
Apple today announced the debut of the John Lennon solo catalogue on the iTunes Store. Sixteen of Lennon's solo works from EMI Music are available for the first time on iTunes starting today, with the “Lennon Legend” and “Acoustic” collections making their worldwide digital debuts. For a limited period of 30 days, exclusive video content will be included with the albums “John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band”, “Sometime in New York City”, “Walls and Bridges”, “Milk and Honey” and the collections “Anthology” and “Working Class Hero”.
“John would have loved the fact that his music will now be available in a format suited to a new generation of listeners”, said Yoko Ono.
“John Lennon is one of the greatest artists of our time”, said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO. “We're thrilled to have his solo catalogue available on the iTunes Store for the first time”.
As part of EMI Music's digital catalogue, the John Lennon solo works will be available in iTunes Plus, offering DRM-free music tracks with high quality 256 kbps AAC encoding for audio quality virtually indistinguishable from the original recordings—for just 99 pence per song.
The iTunes Store features the world's largest catalogue with over five million songs, 550 television shows and over 500 movies. The iTunes Store has sold over three billion songs, 50 million TV shows and over two million movies, making it the world's most popular online music, TV and movie store*.
With Apple's legendary ease of use, pioneering features such as integrated podcasting support, iMix playlist sharing, seamless integration with iPod and the ability to turn previously purchased songs into completed albums at a reduced price, the iTunes Store is the best way for PC and Mac users to legally discover, purchase and download music and video online.
* Television shows and feature films are available in the US only, and video availability varies by country.
