Apple Announces AppleWorks 6.1 With Exclusive Edition for Educators
CUPERTINO, California — April 4, 2001 — Apple® today announced AppleWorks® 6.1,an update to Apple’s award-winning integrated productivity application.AppleWorks 6.1 now features DataViz MacLinkPlus translators allowing usersto easily view, modify, share and exchange Microsoft Office documents. Aspecial edition of AppleWorks 6.1 exclusively for educators features supportfor both Mac® and Windows computers.

AppleWorks 6.1, available for Mac® OS 9 and in a Mac OS X preview version,is perfect for schools with mixed platform environments. Teachers andstudents can now create and access files from almost any computer at home orin school. In addition to supporting both Mac and Windows platformsand easy exchange with Microsoft Word and Excel users, AppleWorks 6.1 alsoworks well in TCP/IP, AppleTalk®, and Novell networked environments.
AppleWorks 6.1 provides educators with the building blocks to createmultimedia curricula and resources for students to express their ideas mosteffectively. It combines word processing, page layout, image manipulation,spreadsheets, databases and presentations in a single application.AppleWorks 6.1 also includes a library of Internet based education-specifictemplates, designed by educators.

Minimum system requirements to run AppleWorks 6.1 for the Mac: Mac OS 8.1 orlater, a PowerPC-equipped Mac, 24MB of physical RAM with virtual memory setto at least 25MB, CD-ROM or DVD-ROM, QuickTime™ and an optional Internetconnection for accessing Internet-based templates.

An updater is available immediately as a free download to all Mac userscurrently running AW 6.0.4. The updater includes a special preview versionof AppleWorks 6.1 for Mac OS X. A retail package including versions for bothMac OS 9 and Mac OS X operating systems is expected to be available inspring 2001.
